(AmericanProsperity.com) – Vaccines typically take between 10 and 15 years from the discovery of a new disease to manufacturing and distribution. But, it’s been just over seven months since scientists in Wuhan, China discovered the COVID-19 virus. Companies have surged ahead with hopes of having a vaccine approved by the end of 2020. This unique situation is changing up the timeline a bit.
Over 145 different vaccines are currently in the works according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Of these, 17 are already in the human testing phase, one of which has already been approved by the Chinese military.
Promising Vaccine Trials
The University of Oxford partnered with AstraZeneca and currently has over 10,000 volunteers in the human trial phase. Balancing speed and safety has been key to ensure safety during these times.

As this vaccine will likely be approved soon, AstraZeneca committed up to 400 million doses to Europe’s Inclusive Vaccine’s Alliance in the coming year at no profit. They are also making deals with other countries, including the US, who will receive 300 million doses after pledging to donate up to $1.2 billion to the cause.
Moderna, an American biotech company, had been set to have a vaccine ready by the end of this year, but it just bumped its trial’s third phase start date from July 9 to later this month. The reason for this change is unknown.
Moderna has been funded with up to $483 million dollars of US taxpayer money through money from a division within the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Even with this funding, there’s no agreement for how many will be set aside for Americans.
Lastly, Pfizer’s stocks have risen quite a bit after optimistic data was released on their experimental COVID-19 vaccine.

These three are closest to distribution.
In addition, Moderna’s Chief Medical Officer, Tal Zak, M.D., also offered a unique outlook on how the current spread of coronavirus in the US is actually helping them.
The vaccine trial can only be deemed effective after multiple volunteers have come in contact with the virus. So, the development will only be fast where the virus is still quite prevalent. This gives America a leading edge over many European countries that have low numbers of COVID-19 cases.
With these vaccines on the horizon, Americans must evaluate the weight of the cost they’ve already paid for these vaccines through their tax dollars. As healthcare expenses rise, big pharmaceutical companies should remember how much Americans have already given.
