(AmericanProsperity.com) – If you have dependents under 17 years old and don’t file taxes because you collect social security, disability, or veteran benefits, it turns out you won’t automatically get the $500 per child stimulus payment. There’s another step you have to take — providing the IRS with your information via the non-filers tool.
If you are a Social Security, railroad retirement or veterans benefit recipient who has qualifying children and did NOT file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, please go to the IRS Non-Filer tool ASAP, and enter basic info to receive your $500 per eligible child. https://t.co/dU36zCwUtB

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement the IRS must receive the necessary information it needs by Wednesday at 12:00 pm EDT or 9:00 am PDT. If the information isn’t provided, individuals who don’t file taxes in this category will still get the $1,200 payment and will not need to do a thing. However, because the IRS can’t pay for dependents if it doesn’t have that information.
Mnuchin further said if those in this group want the $500 per child payment but don’t meet the IRS’s deadline of Wednesday morning, they will need to file taxes for the 2020 tax year in 2021.
