(AmericanProsperity.com) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) faced a lot of scrutiny after he failed to support former President Donald Trump in the time leading up to his second impeachment trial. This past weekend, after Trump was acquitted, McConnell gave a speech that angered many Republicans, driving some to call for his resignation.
McConnell reiterated his lack of support for Trump both in his Senate speech last weekend and in a Wall Street Journal op-ed on February 15. He said the former president’s behavior was “unconscionable” and “bears moral responsibility” for the events of January 6. But, Republicans are pushing back on the GOP leader for his opinions which, they say, no longer reflect his constituents’ views.
In Kentucky, Nelson County Chairman Don Thrasher called out McConnell’s “complete and total disdain for the will of your constituents” in a letter demanding his resignation:

This letter came after Trump released a statement asking Republican senators to stop supporting McConnell on Tuesday, February 16. These events show that the majority of conservative voters still support Trump and will continue to follow him as he fights for the party and its needs.
