(AmericanProsperity.com) – Democrats are supposedly energized and ready to defeat President Trump with an expected record turnout in the Iowa caucuses on Monday night. However, according to an NBC News entrance poll, there was a significant decline in Democratic participants for the first time since 2008.
How did first-time caucus-goers participation rank among Democrats in previous years:
- 2020 – 35%
- 2016 – 44%
- 2008 – 57%

Despite their desire to defeat Trump in November, Democrats may have an energy and enthusiasm problem for the current crop of candidates. Moderate Democrats in leadership are worried about Sanders and Warren far-left policies being out of touch with mainstream Americans. The far-left believes Trump won because the party wasn’t liberal enough.
The media, pundits, and party leaders have been concerned for months that Democrats don’t have the right candidate who can defeat Trump. Now, voters are getting their say in Iowa and new voters are either unimpressed with their options or they don’t believe a Democrat can defeat Trump.
Will the energy and enthusiasm pick-up as the primaries heat-up?
