(AmericanProsperity.com) – Tension between the United States and China rose rapidly this year after COVID-19 emerged from the east Asian country. The week of October 26, the situation heated up further after Beijing declared that it’ll bring new sanctions against America due to our support of Taiwan.
Last week, Beijing asked the US State Department to cancel a $1.8-billion weapons deal with Taiwan. The US continued forward with the deal, which included:
- 135 precision land-attack missiles from Boeing
- Himars mobile rocket systems from Lockheed Martin
- Surveillance and reconnaissance equipment from Raytheon
Beijing spokesman Zhao Lijian shared the decision to sanction the US defense contractors involved in the deal here:
To uphold national interests, China decides to sanction US companies involved in the arms sales to Taiwan, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) and Raytheon, and US individuals and entities that played an egregious role in the arms sales. pic.twitter.com/KGtwoAiFSp

While China believes the sale “seriously undermined China’s sovereignty and security interests,” Taiwan will be able to safeguard itself against any future attacks through this acquisition. Helping democracies defend themselves has been a key aspect of American foreign affairs, and a few sanctions from China won’t stop that.
